Castle of Agia Mavra (Kastro Agias Mavras)

Near the entrance to Lefkada town. This 14th-century Venetian fortress was built to protect the island from pirates and invaders. It’s seen action from Venetians, Ottomans, and even the British.
What you’ll see: Thick stone walls, remnants of chapels, cannons, and killer views over the lagoon.

Ancient Ruins of Nirikos

East of Lefkada town. This was the original capital of the island back in ancient times (like pre-Christian era).

Wilhelm Dörpfeld’s Tomb & Excavation Sites

Near Nydri. Dörpfeld was a German archaeologist who thought Lefkada might be Homer’s Ithaca. He dug around here a lot and believed Odysseus was from the island.
What you’ll see: His actual tomb (on a scenic hill), and if you’re a Homer nerd, you can explore the Mycenaean sites he uncovered nearby.
